About

Miranda Devita Kistler runs a photographic and artistic practice based between Den Haag, The Netherlands and Glarus, Switzerland.

Her practice is driven by a believe that true comprehension arises through sensory and emotional engagement. Her works, explores nature, the more- than- human, landscapes, and ecological perspectives, though sensorial engagement and emotions. By emphasizing wonder and ambiguity, her work encourages viewers to rediscover and foster new and profound connections with the environment.
The projects mostly find shape through immersive publications which reflect senses and feelings, but give hints to the broader context of the work. Additionally her works manifests in installations which transcends photographs into tactile and immersive objects.

In her work „Batu dan Banjir“, she explores water as a force that destructs, but at the same time gives rise to new narratives and associations. Erosion is visible in the work not only literally, but also as a metaphor. It presents erosion, but rather encourages the viewer to read between the cracks and anticipate a new way of understanding and reading alternative narratives within the environment.

On a personal level, the work relates to cultural erosion and what it means in contemporary times. Drawing on her cultural background to explore her personal connection to the element of water and how it unfolds in the cultural and environmental contexts of her family history, the power of water and the process of erosion becomes a metaphor for cultural and geographical flux. She reflects on fragments of stories, history and culture, and how an identity can emerge from fragments.

Kistler graduated in 2024 from the Bachelor of Photography at the Royal Academy of Arts in Den Haag, Netherlands. Her graduation work „Batu dan Banjir“ was then selected for the Best of Graduates Exhibition by Galerie Ron Mandos in Amsterdam. Since then she has been exhibiting for Photography, Art and Design Exhibitions, positioning an approach on the intersection of Classical Photography, Art and Traditional and Modern Craft, challenging the traditional deffinition of each discourse. In 2025, her work was awarded with the Swiss Design Award 2025, for which she exhibited at the Art Basel in Switzerland. Later this year her work will be on view at the Fotomuseum in Den Haag Netherlands.
