Woven Steps

2023

Movement, memory, and transformation.

Woven Steps is an act of renewal, building something new from what has been cast aside. Composed of surplus batik fabric and natural materials from my garden, the work gathers fragments of past processes, reconfiguring them into a layered narrative of presence and change.

The repetition of form and gesture reflects the cyclical nature of growth, decay, and renewal. As materials are woven together, their histories merge, creating an evolving dialogue between what was once discarded and what is now reimagined. A quiet interplay of material memory, where each fiber holds echoes of touch, time, and transformation.

At the heart of the work, the woven shoes stand as symbols of movement, of walking through histories both personal and collective. They trace a path through the discarded, forming new connections between what has been left behind.

In this way, Woven Steps is both an honoring and a becoming, a process of weaving new stories from the overlooked and forgotten.
